Art Always Has Its ConsequencesSubmitted by admin on Wed, 2009-03-25 12:08.
The project Art Always Has Its Consequences is conceived as a long-term international collaborative platform. It aims to create and disseminate knowledge about paradigmatic socially engaged art and visual culture practices in Central and Eastern Europe, including their relationships towards the wider European context both in the past and in the present. Through exhibitions, research laboratories, seminars, publications and educational events, the project will build upon the strong heritage of modernist and conceptual art and theory in Croatia, Poland, Serbia and Hungary, creating vital links between national practices and contemporary developments in both the regional and wider European context. Though more and more accessible, knowledge about art, its development and important historical practices in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe is still overwhelmingly mediated through Western discourse. Artists and cultural workers do not recognize themselves and their specific conditions in the monolithic construction that was termed “(the former) socialist Eastern Europe”, that so often serves as a common denominator in Western projects. The project Art Always Has Its Consequences, named after a quote from Croatian artist Mladen Stilinović, is related to specific historic, economic and political circumstances, but at the same time aims to surpass them. Lecture and Audio Performance by sound artist Novi_sad from Athens, 26th of February, Youth Center CK13, Novi SadSubmitted by admin on Wed, 2009-02-25 11:01.
Thursday, 26.02.2009. 19:00, Lecture Novi_sad (Thanasis Kaproulias, b. 1980) has graduated from the Economic University of Piraues. He lives and works in Athens, Greece. Influenced by the pioneers of audio assault, he began generating sounds in 2005. Amplified environmental recordings, drone manipulations, structured ambient soundscapes, microtones vs overtones, all come together in a hyper structure of iconoclastic form. Novi_sad’s artistic output displays a high level of technical ability, as well as a sensitivity to the nuances of location. The strength of his soundscapes works in the same elaborateness for the whole creation process, starting from a basis of very strong conceptualism, the intense examination of field recordings over the actual composition work, to the point of performing back the result onto location. PUBLIC NETBASE: NON STOP FUTURE - The Book Presentation at ISEA2008, SingaporeSubmitted by admin on Sat, 2008-07-26 10:37.
The Book Presentation at ISEA2008 Published 2008 New information technologies have become ubiquitous and thoroughly established in our everyday lives. This marks the end of a period of intense experimentation and speculations related to the introduction of global communication systems more than a decade ago. Artists and cultural workers were the first to explore their liberatory dimensions and to apply their emancipatory potentials. These early pioneers developed a range of interdisciplinary models and practices in order to expand the scope of social participation in information society cultures. Initiatives like the radical Viennese mediaculture institution Public Netbase became important nodes in a global network dedicated to critical art, culture and science based on new media practices. The exhibition MEDIA ONTOLOGY, Mapping of Social and Art History of Novi Sad in Midway Contemporary Art, MinneapolisSubmitted by admin on Fri, 2008-04-11 13:30.
MEDIA ONTOLOGY Opening Reception: April 19th, 7-9PM Production of the exhibition: Since April 19th to May 24th, 2008, New Media Center_kuda.org will represent the exhibition “MEDIA ONTOLOGY, Mapping of Social and Art History of Novi Sad” in Midway Contemporary Art, in Minneapolis, USA. According to the statement by the Slovenian art group Irwin: History is not given, it needs to be constructed; we see that the history of post WW2 neo avant-garde in Eastern Europe is still not written. That especially applies to the local context of Novi Sad, capital of northern Serbian province Vojvodina, where local art infrastructure and critics at the end of the sixties and beginning of the seventies did not have mechanisms and tools to process rich artistic and cultural activities that were happening right in front of their eyes. Through this exhibition, Center_kuda.org would like to show art practices of artists, writers, movie directors from 1960's and 1970's, such are: group “Kôd”, group “E”, Slobodan Tisma, Miroslav Mandic, Mirko Radojicic, Bogdanka Poznanovic, Vladimir Kopicl, Slavko Bogdanovic, Cedomir Drca, Tibor Varadi, Katalin Ladik, Zelimir Zilnik. On the other hand, this exhibition also includes works of group “Apsolutno”, group “Eastwood”, artist Vladan Joler and other contemporary artist from Novi Sad. With their “gathering” and “facing”, there will be attempt to establish mutual dialogue, reinterpretation and continuity of art practice in those territories.
