Curator and art historian Dunja Blažević, under whose leadership the Gallery of the Student Cultural Center in Belgrade in the 1970s profiled itself in a space open to artistic experiments, new media and critical perspective, strong international cooperation and cooperation among artists in the cities of former Yugoslavia, began in 1981. to work as an editor in the Culture Department of Television Belgrade. Since 1981, he has edited articles on contemporary art in the show "Petkom u 22" and launched the series "Druga umjetnost". The series grew into a regular monthly show called "TV Gallery" (dedicated to Garry Schum), which aired on the Yugoslav TV network until 1991. The "TV gallery" is an important document of interdisciplinary, socially engaged artistic, curatorial, and production practice that remains to this day an unattainable model of the concept of public television and the place of art within it.

The appearance of the TV Gallery in the television media in the Yugoslav context is connected and in a way enabled by events in contemporary art of the 70s and 80s, characterized by the ideas of democratization of reception and production of contemporary art. ), leaving traditional art spaces (galleries and museums) and traditional art media (so-called new media, extended media), tactical use of media, participation, collectivity, change of author status. Television is understood as a “natural” media environment for the presentation and production of video art. Today, that idea has been almost completely abolished and forgotten.

Dunja Blažević's shows dealt with widely understood contemporary art (from historical avant-garde to conceptual art and so-called new artistic practices, video art, design, comics ...), were not "genre" limited, the choice of music is obvious influences of the then still current "new wave". The exhibition is a selection from the television production of Dunja Blažević, which contains video works produced within the TV Gallery, as well as shows that present avant-garde and neo-avant-garde art trends and movements from the 20s to the 90s of the XX century.

The exhibition is part of the project "Political Practices of (Post) Yugoslav Art", in cooperation with partners: WHW (Zagreb), kuda.org (Novi Sad), Prelom (Belgrade).

The project is supported by: European Cultural Foundation
The exhibition TV Gallery, by providing materials, was made possible by RTS / Television Belgrade.
