Announcement from Independent Cultural Scene of Serbia
Independent Cultural Scene of Serbia (NKSS) strongly condemns the attack on the premises of the Youth Center CK13 in Novi Sad, which took place on July 28 at around 10 pm, when an unknown person smashed a window with a stone during the screening of the film. The NKSS Association strongly condemns the previous provocations that harassed and stigmatized activists, associates, and the audience of the Youth Center CK13, and expects the authorities to react effectively to the new incident.
The programs and principles of operation of the Youth Center CK13 represent not only the elementary humanistic and political platform necessary for the development of any modern society but are most common or identical with the principles of operation of most members of the NKSS Association.
The attack on the premises of the Youth Center CK13, which is one of more than 50 members of the NKSS Association from all over Serbia, is, therefore, an attack on the NKSS itself and on the possibility of independent action on the cultural and political scene.
We expect the authorities, as well as the entire public, to interpret the attack on CK13 as an act of aggression on the life and work of our colleagues, their civic reputation and security, professional standards of action on the independent scene, as well as freedom of expression.
